A top target will by the Damar Flycatcher, a species missing since the 19th century until its rediscovery in 2001
OBC is delighted to announce that we’ve teamed up with Birdtour Asia to offer a mouth-watering Banda Sea Cruise from 29th September – 18th October 2026 led by Wilbur Goh and Sumaraja, with the profits from the tour donated to the OBC Conservation Fund.
The Banda Sea islands are among the least explored of all the huge Indonesian archipelago. This exciting cruise will visit the islands of Tanahjampea, Pantar, Alor, Wetar, Leti, Damar, Babar and culminate on the endemic-packed Tanimbar Islands (although if you’ve visited the latter already you can skip the last part: please contact Birdtour Asia for a revised cost).
The birds we will be looking for are some of the world’s least-known: Tanahjampea Monarch, Tanahjampea Jungle-flycatcher, Kalao Jungle-flycatcher, Alor Boobook, Alor Myzomela, Sunda Grasshopper Warbler, Wetar Ground Dove, Wetar Figbird, Timor Imperial Pigeon, Black-necklaced Honeyeater, Wetar Myzomela, Kisar Friarbird, Banda Sea Fantail, Damar Flycatcher, Wallace's Fruit Dove, Slaty-backed Thrush, Tanimbar Bush Warbler, Pied Bronze Cuckoo and Tanimbar Scrubfowl, together with several new taxon currently being elevated to full species status and of course the potential for exciting discoveries of our own.
